The rhyme based on Lizzie Borden and the murder of her parents is: "Lizzie Borden took an axe, And gave her mother forty whacks; When she saw what she had done, She gave her father forty-one," as cited by History.com.
On Aug. 4, 1892, the bodies of Lizzie Borden's parents were found at their home in Fall River, Mass. Andrew and Abby Borden's bodies were mutilated by a hatchet. Lizzie became the prime suspect because she had purchased an axe before the murders and burned a dress afterward. Due to lack of evidence, Lizzie was acquitted of her parents' murders. There were no other suspects charged for the murders.
