How long does it take to become a CNA?

It typically just takes a few months for a person to complete a state-approved nursing assistant training program. In some cases, high school students have access to nursing assistant courses while they are still in school. Community colleges and hospitals are other resources that allow students to access training programs.
Typical nursing assistant programs include a mix of in-class, lab-based and clinical work. To gain a state-based designation such as Certified Nursing Assistant, a person must normally complete an exam as well. Becoming a CNA allows a person to get onto a state registry, which is a necessary step toward getting a job in a nursing home.
