How long is a great white shark?

An adult great white shark reaches an average of 15 feet in length. However, several great whites exceeding 20 feet and 5,000 pounds have been recorded, making the species the largest predatory fish on the planet.

The slate grey body of the great white blends with the ocean floor to camouflage the predator from above, while the white underbelly makes it difficult for them to be seen from below when the sun shines through the water. A muscular, streamlined body and powerful tail enables the shark to pursue prey at up to 15 miles per hour. Great size, tenacity and hundreds of serrated teeth place the great white near the top of the ocean's food chain.
