How long is the recovery time after cataract surgery?

The recovery time after cataract surgery is about a month, according to WebMD. While many patients note vision improvements the day after surgery, they must take eyedrops to help with inflammation and stave off infections. In about a month, patients can get a prescription for new glasses.
During the first week a patient recovers, he should use glasses or a shield to cover his eyes at all times, says VisionAware. He should also avoid lifting weights greater than 10 pounds, bending so far that his head is below his waist, and straining, such as during a bowel movement. Otherwise, he risks opening the surgical incision by building pressure inside his eye.
