LPN is an acronym for Licensed Practical Nurse. This occupation involves providing basic care to patients while under the supervision of a registered nurse or doctor.

The job description of a LPN includes taking vital signs of a patient, recording and maintaining his medical record and administering injections. Vital signs include weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse and oxygen rate. LPNs also work to ensure the patient is comfortable. This involves giving baths, dressing the patient and helping the patient stand up and walk around. An LPN can also collect samples needed for laboratory testing, including blood and urine. To become a LPN, a training program lasting an average of one year is required.
