The Brooklyn Public Library's central branch is located at the intersection of Flatbush Avenue and Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn's Grand Army Plaza. It is near the Crown Heights, Prospect Heights, Flatbush and Park Slope neighborhoods.

The Brooklyn Public Library also operates 58 neighborhood branch libraries spread throughout the borough, many of which are Carnegie Libraries. This makes it the fifth-largest public library system in the world. The library also operates the Bookmobile, a mobile library designed to serve communities whose local branches are closed for renovation.

Grand Army Plaza is the main entrance to Prospect Park, Brooklyn's largest park and home to several other attractions.
