Make a hummingbird feeder by poking a hole in the lid of a baby food jar, painting it a bright color, attaching a wire and filling the feeder with nectar. This takes about 30 minutes. You need a baby food jar, sugar water, a nail, paint and a wire.
- Clean a baby food jar
Thoroughly clean out an empty baby food jar.
- Poke a hole in the lid
Using a nail, poke a hole that is at least 1/8 inch in diameter in the lid of the baby food jar. This is the hole through which the hummingbird feeds.
- Paint the lid
Paint the lid around the hole a bright color, such as red, in order to attract the hummingbirds to it.
- Attach wire
Curve a piece of wire in a U shape. Fasten it around the mouth or lid of the jar. This allows you to hang the hummingbird feeder.
- Make the hummingbird nectar
Make the hummingbird nectar from a sugar water solution. Dissolve 1/2 cup of sugar in 1 cup of hot water, stirring occasionally. Add 1 cup of cold water to the solution, and mix thoroughly.
- Pour the nectar into the feeder
Pour the nectar into the feeder. Screw the lid closed. Hang the feeder.
