What kind of food do you put in a hummingbird feeder?

The type of food you put in a hummingbird feeder is called nectar, which can be made at home. Simply add 1/4 cup of sugar per 1 cup of water.
It isn't recommended to use honey in the mixture, because when honey becomes diluted with water, fungus and bacteria grow in it. When making hummingbird nectar, make sure it doesn't sit out for more than three days so it doesn't grow bacteria. It helps to put new nectar out daily, so it remains fresh. Several batches of nectar can be made at once by boiling the water first and then storing the unused portions in a refrigerator to use later.
