How do you make toothpaste?

Although you can make toothpaste using a variety of methods, one easy method involves mixing baking soda, water and glycerin to form a paste. Add 2 or 3 drops of peppermint essential oil to give the toothpaste an acceptable flavor.

1. Mix baking soda with water

   Combine half a cup of baking soda with one teaspoon of finely ground sea salt in a mixing bowl. Mix with enough water to form a thick paste.

2. Add glycerin

   Combine 6 teaspoons of glycerin with the baking soda and salt mixture. Add a little bit more water if the mixture is too thick. Check the thickness by spooning out some of the mixture with a metal teaspoon. If the mixture is too thin and runs off the spoon, add more baking soda.

3. Add peppermint essential oil

   Mix 2 or 3 drops of peppermint essential oil to the baking soda mixture using a dropper. Combine all the ingredients thoroughly and pour the mixture into a mason jar.

4. Check for taste

   Check the taste by using the toothpaste. Although the texture is different from that of ready-made toothpaste, it is easy to scoop it onto your toothbrush for use. Store the toothpaste in the mason jar with the lid on it.
