There were 789 age discrimination charges filed in the state of New York in the 2014 fiscal year, according to The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Division. This was down from 845 charges in 2013 and 910 in 2012.
According to the U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission, age discrimination is defined as treating an employee or prospective employee unfavorably based on age. This is only applicable to employees over the age of 40. 21.8 percent of all discrimination charges in New York State during 2014 were for age discrimination. New York made up 3.8 percent of all age discrimination charges for the United States in 2014.
