Children's writer Michael Morpurgo has written over 100 books as of 2014, five of which have been adapted into films. His favorites among the assortment of novels, picture books and short story collections he has written include "The Butterfly Lion," "Kensuke’s Kingdom," "War Horse" and his hundredth book, "Private Peaceful."

A former primary school teacher, Michael Morpurgo also served as the third Children's Laureate from 2003 to 2005, a role awarded to a distinguished British children's writer or illustrator with outstanding achievement in the field. He travelled around extensively during his tenure, saying he wanted to remind people of all ages of the power of stories.
