How many calories are in carrots?

One cup, or 122 grams, of raw carrot has 50 calories. Carrots are low in calories and saturated fats and high in a variety of vitamins and minerals. They are also a cholesterol-free food.

The vitamin that is found most abundantly in carrots is vitamin A in the form of beta-carotene. It is a carotinoid, a substance that gives carrots their bright orange color. Unlike the vitamin A consumed from animal sources, a person can't overdose on beta carotene. The human body stores it and uses it as needed.

Other important nutrients found in carrots are fiber, vitamin K, potassium, molybdenum, vitamin C and the B complex vitamins.
