Since 2001, the Daytona 500 has averaged just under 52 entries each year. In that time period, NASCAR's "Super Bowl," has attracted a maximum of 61 (2007) entrants and a minimum of 45 (2013) to its entry list.

Being NASCAR's first race of the season as well as its most prestigious, the Daytona 500 pulls in entries from owners not only from NASCAR's top three touring series but also from other motorsports disciplines. One main reason is the exposure for everyone involved who qualifies, from the owner and driver to the crew and sponsors. Just by qualifying, an entry is guaranteed approximately $250,000, which is enough to get and keep many teams running through more than just the 500.
