Once fertilized, a queen ant can produce millions of eggs during its lifespan, according to antARK. The queens of some species average thousands of eggs a day.
Queen ants have the longest life span of all known insect species, with some types of queen ants living as long as 30 years. While some queens mate to produce offspring, some species of queen ants reproduce through asexual parthenogenesis or cloning, creating only female ants in the process. A select few of the queen's offspring are fed a special diet that allows them to sexually mature and help in the production of other ants in the colony.
