The HMS Titanic had a total of nine decks, including the boiler room level and the orlop, or lowest, deck. The ship stood 60.5 feet above the waterline and had a draft of approximately 34 feet.
On the Titanic, decks B through F were passenger quarters or eating areas. Deck A held the first-class lounge and reading room, as well as the dining area with the grand staircase made famous in movies and images from the sunken wreckage. On top of deck A was the boat deck, where passengers promenaded in the fresh ocean breeze, officers lived in their quarters and the too-few lifeboats were stored. The other decks were maintenance and storage levels.
