How many hours can someone on disability allowance work?

The federal government does not list a maximum number of hours a disability benefit recipient can work, according to Disability.gov. Instead, there is a cap on the amount of money a recipient can earn in wages before his disability status is impacted, states the Social Security Administration.

As of 2015, a person who is receiving monthly Social Security disability payments can earn a maximum of $780 per month in wages before he triggers the SSA's trial work period. Once it begins, the trial work period will continue until the beneficiary has worked a total of nine months within a period of 60 months, states Disability.gov.

Once the trial work period ends, a Social Security disability recipient can continue to receive disability payments while working as long as his monthly wage earnings do not exceed $1,090 per month ($1,820 if blind), notes the SSA.
