Approximately 6.7 million women ages 15 to 44 suffer from impaired fecundity, which is the inability to get pregnant or maintain a pregnancy to term, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Around 6 percent of married women, or 1.5 million women, in that age bracket are infertile.
Approximately 3.3 to 4.7 million men age 45 and younger reported seeing fertility doctors during their lifetimes, according to a CDC study. Around 18 percent of those men received diagnoses of male-related fertility problems. Of those men, problems with semen, sperm or varicocele were common.
About 7.4 million women ages 15 to 44 reported using facility services as of 2010, reports the CDC.
