How many people die from frostbite?

According to Medscape, the prevalence of frostbite injuries and deaths is unknown. This lack of data, according to the article, is "because no standardized reporting system or database for frostbite is available."
Medscape advises that individuals who are not acclimatized to cold areas are at the greatest risk of developing frostbite. Studies conducted by the U.S. Army between 1980 and 1999 found that African-American men were four times more likely to suffer frostbite than white men, and African-American women were 2.2 times more likely compared to white women. A British Army study found similar results, but neither study offered any explanation as to why this is thought to occur.
