How many people are in India?

India has an estimated total population in excess of 1.2 billion people as of 2014, making India the second most populous country in the world. The largest and capital city of India is New Delhi, which contained an estimated 22.7 million of the country's population in 2011.

Some other large centers of India's massive population are found in the cities of Mumbai, with close to 20 million people, and Kolkata, with an estimated 14.4 million people, as of 2011. As of 2014, the only country in the world with more people than India is China. According to 2014 estimates, China has a population of over 1.3 billion people.
