How many people wrote the Bible?

The Bible was written over the span of 1500 years by 40 authors. There are 30 authors in the Old Testament and 10 in the New Testament.

Some books of the Bible are compilations written by several authors. One such book is Psalms, meaning songs of praise, in the Old Testament. Most commonly associated with King David, who wrote the majority, there are also psalms composed by Moses, Asaph, Ethan and the sons of Korah.

Moses is believed to have recorded the first five books of the Old Testament, known as the Torah. Much of the history and information in them were passed down orally.
