How many pounds are in a dollar?

As of Nov. 11, 2014, there are 0.628 British pounds in one U.S. dollar. There are other countries, which refer to their currency as dollars or pounds, which have different values.

Other countries with their own dollar include Australia, Belize, Brunei, Canada, Hong Kong, Namibia, New Zealand, Singapore, Suriname and Taiwan. Countries that have their own pound include Egypt, Lebanon, South Sudan, Sudan, and Syria. U.S. and other dollars are divided into 100 cents. This is a result of the efforts of Thomas Jefferson and his belief that the United States needed a currency that could be divided easily by multiples of 10: a decimal currency.
