There are an estimated 3.5 billions soccer fans worldwide. The greatest concentration of soccer fans live in Europe, Africa, Asia and America.

In terms of fan base and popularity, soccer is the most popular sport in the world. In 2006, approximately 30 billion people are estimated to have watched the FIFA World Cup that took place in Germany.

In comparison, the second biggest sport, cricket, is said to have 2.5 billion fans, most of which are located in Asia, Australia and the U.K. Two billion fans follow field hockey, and these fans are generally located in the same continents as soccer. Basketball and American football generally have only 400 million fans.
