Tigers have 30 teeth designed to tear and crush bones and tear flesh from their prey. The largest of the cats, the tiger has three types of teeth that serve different functions.
A tiger's canine teeth measure between 2.5 and 3 inches in length. They are the largest canine teeth among all cat species. The incisors are located between the canines and allow the tiger to pick pieces of flesh off of the bones of its prey. Finally, the back teeth are called carnassials, and they are used like knife blades to shear off flesh, which is then swallowed whole.
