As of October 2015, recreational use of cannabis is illegal in Canada, according to Newsweek. However, the use of medical marijuana is legal in all provinces, and challenges to federal cannabis laws have weakened enforcement nationwide.
Under current law, cannabis is included under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, allowing police in all Canadian provinces to press charges for its unlicensed possession, transportation or cultivation, according to Wikipedia. The Liberal Party of Canada supports the legalization and regulation of cannabis for all uses, notes Newsweek. Opinion polls in 2015 reflect that over half of Canadians are in favor of marijuana legalization, states Forum Research.
