Who is Mary Lee the Shark?

Mary Lee the Shark is a 16-foot, 3,456-pound great white shark that travels up and down the eastern seaboard. Researchers from OCEARCH have been tracking her movements since 2012.

As of October 2015, Mary Lee has traveled nearly 24,000 nautical miles on her various East Coast trips since tracking began. Research shows that she likes to move from habitat to habitat and does not stay in one location for long. She has been tracked in locations such as the North Carolina and New Jersey coastlines, yet she rarely comes north in the fall. Her visit to New Jersey in the fall of 2015 is her first visit north during this season.
