What materials are needed to play volleyball?

Some equipment is mandatory to play a game of volleyball, like a ball, net, poles and a clearly marked court. Other materials are optional, like knee pads, uniforms and a certified referee.

Volleyball is a two-team sport that requires six active players on each side of the net for each team at any time. Teams have a maximum of three touches before knocking the ball over to the other side. If the ball touches the ground or goes out of bounds, a team is awarded a point. The ball can only be hit by players in a certain way, or a team will lose the point.
