As of 2014, the shortest NCAA Division I women's volleyball player to compete was Gina Guide of Northern Illinois University, who stands 4 feet 10 inches tall. She played for the Huskies from 2003 to 2006 and set school records for number of career digs and digs in one match.
During Guide's freshman season in 2003, the next-shortest volleyball player in Division I was barely over 5 feet tall. Guide's mother is 5 feet 1 inch tall, and her father is 5 feet 9 inches. Guide was a defensive specialist for Northern Illinois who finished with 2,249 career digs over 126 matches and 477 games.
