What does it mean to be human?

Being human can mean many things, and it varies from person to person, but it is often summarized as a response to the human condition or as the condition itself. The human condition involves the problems arising from being a finite, conscious being.

Humans are mortal and die like other living things, but unlike other creatures, humans are aware of their eventual death. There are many responses to this condition. Some people find meaning in religion or spirituality. Some people devote their lives to an art form, project, business or humanitarian work. Many people seek meaning in family and friends.
