What does it mean to have a twisted and redundant colon?
By Forinfos - 22/07/2025 - 0 comments
A twisted and redundant colon is an abnormally long colon that contains loops, states Healthline. The descending colon or final portion is often the affected segment.
A redundant colon is more likely to occur in people who are genetically predisposed, or it can occur for no known reason. Having a redundant colon causes bloating, fecal impaction and constipation. A redundant colon also increases the risk of colonic volvulus, a condition in which the colon twists around itself and stops the flow of stool. This condition is a surgical emergency. However, a redundant colon does not always cause symptoms or problems, explains Healthline.
