Michael Bloomberg is considered a liberal Republican. He is socially liberal because of his pro-choice views and support for the legalization of same-sex marriage. Bloomberg was a Democrat for much of his life and switched to the Republican party before his first mayoral campaign.

Bloomberg was the 108th mayor of New York City. Bloomberg served three terms as the mayor of New York City, from his first election in 2002 through 2014. Bloomberg spent about $90 million of his own money on his third mayoral campaign. He became a self-made billionaire from starting a company that drastically changed the way financial information is shared.
