What is a mid-ocean ridge?

A mid-ocean ridge is a mountain range that is formed underwater in the ocean. These land formations are created by the movement of plate tectonics.

All of the mid-ocean ridges in the world are connected and form one single global mid-oceanic ridge system that can be found in every ocean on Earth. This means that the mid-ocean ridge is the longest mountain range on Earth. It has a total length of approximately 60,0000 kilometers.
