Where is the Mid-Ocean Canyon?

The mid-ocean canyon, also known as the mid-ocean ridge system, wraps around the globe over an approximate 65,000 to 70,000 kilometers. The mid-ocean ridge system does not merely traverse the globe in a straight or linear fashion like the equator but rather snakes and weaves its way around the Earth.

Most of the mid-ocean canyon is well over 2,000 meters deep with an average depth of 2,500 meters. One section of the ridge actually rises to sea level in Iceland. The deepest part of the mid-ocean ridge is named the Cayman Trough and is over 4,000 meters deep. The ridge is constantly shifting and changing direction, as the tectonic plates that make up the ridge move over time.
