Where is MIT located?

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or MIT, is located in Cambridge, Mass. This private research university was established in 1861 and opened to the public in 1865.

The initial goal of MIT was to capitalize on the increasing industrialization in the United States. The university placed on emphasis on applied science and engineering, allowing the school to form relationships with budding industries across the United States. In addition to its work in applied sciences, MIT is well known for its achievements in biology, economics and linguistics. More than 80 Nobel laureates and 45 Rhodes Scholars have been affiliated with MIT, as of 2014.
