Considering all breeds, the average adult cow weighs about 1,390 pounds. There is less than a 100-pound difference between the heaviest and lightest animals.
For individual beef cattle, the amount of meat produced increased almost 20 percent between 1990 and 2010. That is an average increase of 150 to 170 pounds for each cow. Daily weight gain is about 60 percent faster than in the previous century.
An adult dairy cow weights about 1,400 pounds. On average, each eats about 50 pounds of feed and produces 6 1/2 gallons of milk daily. California produces the greatest amount of milk in the United States, followed by Wisconsin.
