The male white-tailed deer, which is the species most prevalent in the U.S., weighs from 150 to 300 pounds. The female of the species is slightly smaller, with an average weight of 90 to 200 pounds.
White-tailed deer are herbivores, meaning they only eat plants. The deer's diet is dependent on its surroundings and the season of the year. In summer, it generally eats green plants, but in the fall it relies mainly on acorns, nuts and corn for sustenance. Winter foods include the twigs and buds of woody plants.
A female white-tail deer is known as a doe, and the male is a buck. Baby deer are known as fawns.
