An Amazon Prime membership costs $99 per year, as of 2015. Amazon.com offers a 30-day free trial for new subscribers, and students get a special rate of $49 annually in addition to a 6-month free trial period.

After the free trial period, Amazon charges the $99 annual fee to the credit card on file. Prime members have the option of cancelling their memberships at any time. If the member hasn't placed an order using Amazon Prime before cancelling, Amazon.com issues a full refund.

Residents of some cities have the option of joining Amazon Prime Fresh for $299 per year. This membership provides free delivery of fresh groceries in addition to regular Amazon Prime benefits.
