How much can a landlord raise the rent in Florida?

Landlords in Florida can raise the rent as much as they desire, according to the Law Offices of Stephen K. Hachey, P.A. There are no state or city ordinances that control the amount of rent that a landlord can charge a tenant.
Hachey notes that states with highly competitive housing markets, such as New York, have rent control ordinances. Floridians should communicate with their landlords directly if they wish to negotiate a cheaper monthly rent even though they are not protected by rent control ordinances. Tenants can choose to avoid more expensive areas in Florida, which include property in close proximity to conveniences such as schools, shopping and jobs.
