Mud wrestling is wrestling in wet mud, typically in a small enclosure. Mud wrestling is generally staged as a competition between two women, but there are also male mud wrestling events. Mud wrestling usually involves more spectacle than wrestling, but does require some physical stamina.
Mud wrestling originated in India, and was initially called Kushti. The first official American mud wrestling competition was in the early1930s. This competition took place in Akron, Ohio, between two men Tyler Carroll and Michael Wittrock.
It wasn't until the late 1930s that mud wrestling was open to women, with the first female competition on January 7th, 1938.
