Where is Mumbai located?

Mumbai is a city in the western part of India. It is the capital city of the Indian state of Maharashtra and is composed of seven islands that sit off the northern Konkan coast in the Arabian Sea.

As of 2011, the estimated population in Mumbai was 18.4 million people, making it the most populous city in India and the fifth-most populous city in the world. The city is divided into districts. The Mumbai City district, a peninsula that makes up the southern tip of the city, goes by the nickname "Island City," or South Mumbai. The Mumbai Suburban district makes up a majority of the city.
