Munich is a city that is located in the country Germany, in central Europe. Munich is the capital city of Bavaria, one of the states of Germany.

Munich is considered one of the most recognizable cities of Germany. With the third largest city population of about 1.4 million, it occupies approximately 310 square kilometers of area. The only two larger German cities are Hamburg and Berlin. Munich officially became a city of Bavaria in 1175. It is named after the monks that settled near the area. It wasn't until 1506, when Bavaria reunited all of its cities, that Munich became the capital.
