What is the name of the World Cup trophy?

The trophy awarded to the World Cup champion team is called the Jules Rimet trophy as of 2014. It is named after the driving force of the first World Cup, former president of the International Federation of Association Football, Jules Rimet. The trophy was renamed in his honor in 1946.

Originally, the trophy was meant to be transferred from winner to winner of each subsequent Cup. On winning the World Cup for the third time in 1970, Brazil was awarded the original trophy permanently. A new trophy design was ordered for the 1974 tournament. The three-win transfer rule was scrapped, and FIFA now holds this trophy but gives replica awards to the victorious nations.
