What is the Naruto vs. Pain battle?

The Naruto versus Pain battle occurs during the Invasion of Pain story arc in the Naruto Shippuden manga and anime series. This story arc illustrates two of Jiraiya's pupils taking very different roads towards peace. This action also foreshadows the conclusion of a larger narrative arc throughout the series.

Since it was first published in 1997, the series has had over 70 manga volumes, 500 anime episodes, and nearly a dozen movies. The series even had a manga spin-off revolving around a character named Rock Lee. Manga production for this spin-off finished in July 2014. This spin-off also had its own 51-episode anime series before being cancelled.
