Australia does not have an official national bird, but the emu is largely regarded as Australia's unofficial national bird. The emu is a flightless bird and is found throughout the majority of mainland Australia.
Emus reach a weight that varies between 40 and over 100 pounds. The emu is the largest bird in Australia, reaching a height of over 6 feet. This bird has very few native natural predators.
Australia does not have an official fauna national symbol either, but the kangaroo is accepted widely as Australia's unofficial national fauna. The golden waddle was declared as Australia's official national floral symbol in August 1988.
