What are some natural habitats of eagles?

An eagle's natural habitat depends on the abundance of its most common prey and access to its preferred nesting areas. Bald eagles prefer open areas near water and need trees available for nesting. Golden eagles prefer open grasslands and meadows and prefer to nest on cliffs.

North America is home to two species of resident eagles, golden and bald. The golden eagle can be found throughout most of North America, except for the southeast. Bald eagles nest in the far north and migrate to the Midwest and west coast during winter. Two other species of eagle, the Steller's sea eagle and the white-tail eagle, are considered rare visitors and breeders in Alaska.
