Are there any natural treatments for dementia?

Caprylic acid, coconut oil, coenzyme Q10, coral calcium and ginkgo biloba are all sold as herbal remedies that help with various types of dementia, according to the Alzheimer's Association. Claims about these natural treatments, as well as omega-3 fatty acids, huperzine A, phosphatidylserine and tramiprosate remain largely anecdotal.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration does not require the same level of research for dietary supplements or "medical foods" as it does for prescription medicines. This means that there is scant scientific research regarding any of these supplements. Before trying them, dementia patients should discuss them with their physicians to ensure that there are no interactions with other medications, notes the Alzheimer's Association.
