Since July 2009, anyone entering Canada by land, sea or air must have a valid passport or equivalent travel document. United States law also requires individuals to have a U. S. passport to reenter this country.
Equivalent travel documents that satisfy the passport requirement include the NEXUS Card, an identification card available to U. S.and Canadian citizens that they can scan at automated kiosks; a U.S. passport card, a state-issued identification card that is valid for land and sea entry only; an Enhanced Driver’s License, a driver’s license with a radio chip that is available to residents of New York and Washington; and a FAST/Express Card, a pre-approved entry program for commercial truckers.
