What is needed to sign up for a free Amazon Student Prime account?

As of March 2015, signing up for a free Amazon Student Prime trial membership requires a valid email address with a .edu suffix and a valid credit card on file. Students also have to report their college and program of study to Amazon.

The Student Prime free trial lasts for six months. Members must manually cancel their account during this period, or they are automatically billed for Amazon Prime service at the end, with a 50 percent discount. The account can be canceled at any time. It is unclear if Amazon checks to see if the student is still attending the school.
