Every integer is not a whole number, but every whole number is an integer. An integer is any number, positive, negative or zero, that is able to be represented without a fraction or decimal, according to Reference.com. The number of possible integers is infinite.
A whole number is one from the set containing zero and all of the positive numbers. A negative number, therefore, is not a whole number, but it is an integer. An infinite number of whole numbers also exists. Many numbers are both integers and whole numbers, but the negative numbers are only integers. Another classification of numbers, known as natural numbers, includes the same numbers as whole numbers, but without the zero.
