What is the normal sugar level for a diabetic?

According to the American Diabetes Association, the target range for adults is between 70 and 130 mg/dl before a meal (fasting) and less than 180mg/dl after the beginning of a meal.

Many factors affect blood sugar levels in individual diabetics. These factors include how long a person has had diabetes, certain medications, infections and other medical conditions occurring simultaneously with the primary condition of diabetes, such as heart disease, kidney disease or neuropathy.

Additionally, a diabetic's recent diet plays an immediate factor on blood sugar. Sugars, complex carbohydrates and proteins all play major roles in the changing levels of blood sugar.
