What does a 925 stamp on gold jewelry mean?
By Forinfos - 07/04/2026 - 0 comments
True gold jewelry does not have a 925 stamp on it, since a 925 stamp indicates that a piece of jewelry is made of genuine sterling silver. Gold is stamped with a K to indicate how many karats, or parts of gold, it contains.
Silver is a very soft metal. Because it cannot be used in jewelry on its own, it is combined with metals such as copper to form alloys.
Only jewelry containing a minimum of 92.5 percent pure silver can be labeled as sterling. Genuine sterling jewelry is stamped with 92.5, .925, 925 or the word "Ster."
Jewelry can be gold-plated to give a lesser metal the look of gold.
